Podcast Review: With Episode 302 “WHOREible Decisions” Has Already Won Best Sex Podcast of 2023

Honoring trauma, health & kink, WHOREible Decision is a kaleidoscope of sex for Black women.

Advertisers prefer Call Me Daddy, AVN Plug Talk and hip hop Lip Service. But WHOREible Decisions (WD) has amassed a rabid fandom via Patreon and YouTube. Often left off best sex podcast lists, WD is nearing its seventh year of unapologetically Black, queer and sex positive talk. Creators and hosts Weezy and Mandii demystify sex, sex work and sexuality for Black women. More niche than competitors, they refuse the easy lay-up of mega platforms (Spotify, iHeart Radio, AVN) or celebrity guests, preferring a partnership with Black Effect and a long list of interesting guests (sex workers, fans, doctors, writers, other podcasters, and even their moms).

Beyond the reframing of terms like nigger, slut and whore, they reject respectability politics and the misogyny of hip hop. Intentionally removing shame and judgement from sex ain’t an easy path! Most men aren’t yet open or free enough to publically rally behind them. And too many women either are too busy guarding their reputations or are jealous/afraid of these self-proclaimed liberated whores. This has not stopped the mission! For Weezy and Mandii, unraveling sexual trauma is as important as embracing a healthy sex life. WD is a safe place to get and stay free.

WHOREible Decisions has quietly become one of the hottest…. raciest, rawest podcasts on the internet’ –Vice, 2018

The conversations are so open, raw and uncensored that even their mothers have stopped by to proudly support their daughters…. – Essence, 2020

Bridging the gulf between salacious and informative, the hour weekly podcast has been heralded by Vice and Mic. Part personal journal, health column and comedy show, each episode is a unique experience of X-rated and trigger warning content.

Weezy and Mandii are brilliant interviewers and storytellers. Well researched and produced, the varied and always changing segments (Ice breakers, Whore d’oeuvre, Kink of the Week, Heaux Mail, Vanilla Shit,, Horror Story…) provide ample room for their talents. For these women, WHOREible Decisions is an open marriage. Both have other podcasts (For Fact’s Sake; See The Thing Is), TV shows ($ex Sells; Date My Playlist) and media studios (WTF Media Studios; Full Court Studios). But they ensure that their primary relationship is nourished. It has remained personal, intimate, insightful.

The hosts’ dynamic chemistry is undeniable. Somewhere between sisters and frenemies, they exist. On and off air blow-ups have long endangered the show. Their fraught if not contentious relationship required mediation with Dr. Maya Pettiford in 2018. Another kerfluffle in 2022 was detailed on Heauxs & Tears. All the drama is painstakingly shared as a sign of transparency. This keeps them steeped in conflict as opposed to redefining the relationship in ways to serve them better. The toxicity is par for the course in this burgeoning Black podcast industry which seems intent on modeling reality television faux pas. A sad but profitable business model.

The podcast’s Achilles heel is communication, ironically. The disconnect between WD’s savvy content and their communication style disappoints. Titillating conversations, with or without guests, are stalled by unnecessary and jarring interruptions. Not unusual in our lives, but on a well produced show, cutting-off guests, over-talking, cross-talking and weak segment introductions or transitions are tiresome. This is not a good look for these smart, ambitious women.

Indicative of their personalities and roles, Mandii over talks and adheres to outlines like it is a PR or Focus group edict. Weezy’s more likely to ask a penetrating question, share an hilarious anecdote or disconnect. Mandii’s all business, i.e. the parental unit, while Weezy gets to bring the fodder as the talented, petulant child. Their brilliance, they can each fill the other’s on mic role if needed! When they throw the ball back and forth without unnecessary shade, outline dependence or awkward segment announcements, there is no other podcast in their league!

On last week’s episode, Ep 302: Kinks & Trauma (Ft. Samia Burton), the hosts’ growth and the show’s evolution was evident. There was no noticeable friction. The mood was relaxed, jovial, open. They warmly welcomed Samia Burton.

The many segments flowed naturally; the conversation was less spastic. Wheezy stayed present and Mandii did not over talk the guest nor awkwardly signpost segments. Like friends at brunch the conversation was intimate, embarrassing and vulnerable. Burton shared stories about her big oops during an anal session; hiring a submissive; compersion via unicorning; importance of words of affirmation; working on trauma through sex…

Not many with their fanbase and clout would be so generous with their platform. With the launch of Not Just Another Sex Podcast, Burton is a competitor with a well-established brand as a sex educator and founder of Sexual Essentials. Weezy and Mandii are not threatened. They fawned over her Black tie event Live Sex Art Show and showed much care and compassion as Burton told her story of abuse and rape. Without negating nor diminishing Burton’s experience, Weezy shared her own sexual assault. The vulnerability is refreshing in 2023.

WHOREible Decisions unravels trauma, normalizes kink, and proves black women too can independently forge successful media careers.

More than a 21st century Black woman’s guide to pleasure, WHOREible Decisions is a journey into discovery, exploration and acceptance. The conversations are personal, intimate and honest. From whore tales to sexual health tips, Weezy and Mandii are the perfect mixture of Dr. Ruth, Zane and Sister Souljah. If this reference baffles, you have some work to do before listening to the best sex podcast.
