Is Gossip Maven Tasha K Unhinged Or Strategic?

Great tea spillers give their opinion with flair. They deliver celebrity news with the skill of great griots. The best ones have larger than life personalities. When they talk, we listen till they cross that seemingly invisible line.

Some tea should not be spilled. Remember when Wendy Williams told all of New York about Method Man’s wife’s cancer diagnosis? The couple had not disclosed the news to family. People’s health, sexual orientation and children are off limits. Tasha K (Latasha Kebe of @UNWINEWITHTASHAKA) never got this memo.

In 2019 she maliciously violated Cardi B. with forty videos asserting tales of herpes, sex work, infidelity and hard drug use. But the claim that the rapper’s child would suffer intellectual damage due to the mother’s lifestyle was pure evil. The YouTuber refused three cease and desist orders and had the audacity to demand a loss of revenue fee from Cardi B to remove the lies.

There is much money in tea, messiness, gossip. Just ask Wendy Williams, Perez Hilton, Jason Lee… But there is a clear line between juicy gossip and lies. Slander, defamation, libel and invasion of privacy charges are not easy to prove. But Cardi B did it, and at great expense (time and money). Sadly, even after losing to the tune of four million dollars, Tash K is unrepentant and has turned to a rather contrived right wing narrative. Her twelve minute response video is as cringe-worthy as Fresh and Fit’ Podcast’s anti-Black women missives. Like a Fox news anchor, Tasha K’s arguments are vile and idiotic! She has gone from a tea spiller to an hypocritical evangelical.

We called bluff against a machine that wanted to bully me for not wavering from my personal beliefs. A machine that has corporate interests to protect prostitution, drug use, promiscuity and to glorify the violence that wreaks havoc on our society and in our neighborhood… This machine never wanted my money. They wanted to shut down my company.in order to protect their assets that glorify this reckless and dangerous lifestyle pushed on us and our children. It was about someone demanding my respect and give respect to something that has never earned my respect. This is about changing the trajectory of how things are done in Hollywood after a century...The appeal process has already begun. We intend to expose every conspiracy against me, my company and my family...We intend to take this to the Supreme Court if need be…

The monetized video response is a highly produced redirection, reminiscent of Jim Baker. It is a tightly scripted monologue to solidify her base and curry favor with YouTube and the courts. She claims to have now taken down the videos, “to show good faith to the courts.” Preparing for the possibility of de-platforming, she launched her own app late last year.

Instead of apologizing or simply pivoting from malicious gossip, she has created a convoluted narrative to excuse her behavior. Accountability simply isn’t in her vocabulary. She assigns blame to Cardi B., payola, the machine. The epitome of gaslighting, she positions herself as the Black community’s savior. She is neither a savior, nor a trampled upon victim. She is a manipulative self-aggrandizing charlatan. By centering Black entertainers, her platform glorifies the very community she condemns, and she positions herself as the put upon leader of a movement she has defined.

The referenced Tash K conspiracy is unlikely. No one is out to destroy Tasha K. No one has to. She is doing that already. She is not leading the way for new digital media. This case will not establish precedent. Tasha K is dangerous. She either believes her lies or she is unhinged and leading her followers to doom like a cult leader.

I want better for us. And I live that better. Everything I represent: marriage, two parent household and working for every dime without harming the next person to get there…

Flagrant lies, shoddy journalism and a disingenuous platform. Tasha K is a bad faith actor. Like a soulless politician, she strategizes and flip flops arguments to meet her self-serving goals. She is for the weak. For those seeking entertainment and escape above all else. Her audience is full of Ameners. They don’t question or push back. They are the chorus to her solos which she delivers like holy sermons. Her hubris will be her demise. She refuses to apologize. Her business is built on the believe that celebrities deserve this treatment. After seeing the hurt she has hurled at Cardi B and family, Tasha K did not stop; she has promised to keep fighting for the right to make a lot of money and gain more notoriety in the industry.
